Small Is The New Big

small things Small Is The New Big

Last week, as my wife and I were driving home from taking our kids to camp, we saw the darnedest thing – a small car was pulling a big truck. Isn’t it supposed to be the other way around? This kind of thinking comes from someone who can become easily impressed with the big and not so impressed with the small. This picture taught me several lessons:

Small doesn’t always mean weak and powerless.

Big doesn’t always mean powerful and strong.

Small things, with the more than adequate power, can accomplish big tasks.

The big will sometimes be dependent on the small.

I should not despise or show contempt for small things.

God uses small things, and seemingly insignificant people to accomplish big stuff (I am fully aware he uses the big as well). In the past, we have seen God use small babies to deliver a big number of people (Moses and Jesus), a small rod to part a big sea, a small rock to kill a big giant, small boys to run big kingdoms (David and Josiah), and a small band of twelve men to start a big movement, the church.

Are you feeling small, insignificant or unimportant? Are you feeling like your influence, money, education, and accomplishments are too small to accomplish anything big? Remember, God uses small things to accomplish big stuff. He has done it in the past, and he desires to continue it through you today. Submit your weaknesses and inadequacies to his divine power and watch him do amazing things in, through, and with your life.

What weaknesses do you think God wants you to submit to him today?

Praize Gawd!!! What an awesome, awesome, awesome word! This just speaks to my "inner man" I am in the the Ministry Leadership Bachelor Program Cornerstone and at times I "feel" too small for the ministry and today was one of those days. I am thankful that God is mindful of even my "smallest" concerns and consoles me! Thank you for being obediant to the Holy Spirit and doing your "small" big part in ministry! Kimberly Y. That was a most encouraging word my brother. One I need to be mindful of as I am bombarded daily with ideas of how I can prosper and be a blessing to others in their quest to improve the quality of their lives. When I think about some of the problems we face in our society and wonder what little old me could do to make a positive difference in the lives of the multitudes of people who struggle with one challenge or another it can be a little overwhelming and discouraging especially when I see myself as insignificant. But you what? I need to remember that greater (bigger) is He who is in me. I'm never alone if I truly trust in the Lord. Thanks, I needed that!

Kim, thanks for the encouragement. God is going to use you in mighty ways. In fact, he is already doing it. You have been a blessing to me and my ministry. I look forward hearing about the "big stuff" God is going to do with, in and through you, as you are consistent with the small stuff he asks you to do. God rewards faithfulness. Grace and peace.

His power is made perfect in our weakness. I am trying to be consistent with the little things first. God wants me to be faithful over the small things and then he will trust me with bigger things. I have not always done a good job, but I am still striving to give him my insignificance and see if he can make it significant for his glory. Thanks for the encouraging word to me. I look forward to hearing how he is using you and will use you to bless the many in your orbit. Grace and peace.

I believe we are all with out excuse because we can do what ever God has given us to help others. My husband explained to me just saying hello can make a big difference in someone's day. Calling up a neighbor to offer my services if I have nothing to do.

  6. Marvinwilliams Says:

Your husband is on point. It is the little things that make the biggest difference. I have had this happen to me on more than one occasion – a smile, a hug, a word, an email, a phone call, a card, etc. We should be sensitive to the leading and prompting of the Holy Spirit and respond immediately to what he says and directs us to do. Thanks for the great insight here.

Interesting post. Good concept that you articulated my brother. I wonder if some that have been hypnotized into thinking that "bigger is better" in terms of the church would catch this message. Solid word man.

Thanks, my brother. I am feeling you on this one. I have to constantly keep myself in check on this one. If we do the little things well, big will automatically happen. But, if we go out trying to become big, then that's when we set ourselves up for disappointment. Again, thanks for your affirmation. Grace and peace.
